DAR MIRA: A Contemporary Reverie Of Moroccan Heritage

A richly layered love letter to Morocco, where sun-soaked volumes, jewel tones and ancestral artistry converge in a residence designed to be felt as much as lived…

In the heart of Morocco, where centuries of craftsmanship meet an ever-evolving cultural landscape, Dar Mira by Kart Group stands as a refined expression of tradition reimagined. More than a private residence, the home is a sensory journey — one that reflects architect and designer Mustafa Khamash’s enduring philosophy: design rooted in place, guided by intention and shaped for modern living.

Designed by Khammash, founder of the award-winning Kart Group, Dar Mira is an elegant exploration of Moroccan domestic traditions translated through a contemporary lens. The residence balances authenticity and comfort with remarkable ease, offering spaces that feel both deeply familiar and refreshingly current.

“This project was conceived as a dialogue between craftsmanship, atmosphere and intention. Every detail is designed to feel intuitive yet deliberate — creating spaces that invite people to slow down, connect and experience beauty through material, light and proportion.”
MUSTAFA KHAMASH

From the moment one enters Dar Mira, that intention becomes clear. Double-height volumes and expansive glass façades open the house to its surrounding gardens, allowing natural light to animate the interiors throughout the day. The architecture is open yet grounded, creating a fluid relationship between indoors and out while preserving a sense of privacy and calm.

Inside, the palette draws directly from Morocco’s landscapes and urban vibrancy. Earthy tones of terracotta, sand and ochre form a warm foundation, punctuated by jewel-like accents of cobalt, emerald and saffron. These colours echo the country’s markets, desert horizons and coastal blues, infusing the home with a quiet richness that never feels ornamental for its own sake.

Communal areas are designed to foster connection and ease. Low modular seating arrangements encourage relaxed gatherings, while handwoven rugs, embroidered cushions and carved wooden details celebrate Morocco’s artisanal heritage. Each piece feels purposeful — crafted not merely to be admired, but to be lived with.

Nowhere is this balance more striking than in the dining room. A hand-carved table anchors the space, inviting moments of shared ritual, while the walls are enveloped in Majorelle Blue — the iconic hue associated with the cobalt gardens of Jacques Majorelle and immortalised by the Yves Saint Laurent Museum in Marrakech. Paired with intricate mosaic patterns, the room becomes a tribute to Moroccan artistry, infused with Kart Group’s belief that homes should be deeply felt as much as they are beautifully designed.

Private quarters shift the mood toward serenity. Neutral palettes, layered textiles and custom canopied beds create intimate sanctuaries for rest and reflection. Built-in seating, ottomans and bespoke joinery ensure that efficiency and functionality are seamlessly integrated, reinforcing Khamash’s commitment to beauty that serves daily life rather than interrupts it.

Outdoor spaces extend Dar Mira’s narrative of relaxed luxury. Sunken majlis seating, vibrant courtyards, and tiled terraces invite alfresco living at every hour of the day. These areas blur the boundary between architecture and landscape, echoing traditional Moroccan riads while embracing a more open, contemporary flow.

Throughout the residence, traditional elements such as zellige tilework, hand-carved details and richly coloured accents are thoughtfully combined with modern layouts and clean architectural lines. The result is a home that honours heritage without nostalgia — one that feels alive, relevant and enduring.

Dar Mira is also a reflection of Kart Group itself. Founded in 2004 by Mustafa Khamash, the Dubai-based architecture and interior design atelier has built a reputation for creating bespoke luxury environments across residential, hospitality, institutional, corporate and cultural sectors throughout the GCC and Europe. Led by Khamash — a Power 50 designer known for landmark projects and installations — Kart Group consistently creates spaces that transcend function to become lasting architectural statements. Dar Mira is a compelling example of that ethos: a residence where Moroccan heritage and contemporary living coexist in effortless harmony, guided by a designer who understands that true luxury lies in meaning, materiality and timeless design.
