HOTEL VICTORIA: A Journey Through Time

The oldest in Stavanger Hotel VICTORIA, which first opened its doors in 1900 in the heart of the city with a fantastic view of the Vogen, offers to plunge into the historical past and drink a glass of champagne under the same chandelier as King Haakon VII and Queen Maud in 1906 as well as enjoy the same view from the room as the King of Siam in 1907.

Hotel VICTORIA was designed by architect Henry Bucher and is one of the most beautiful and prominent buildings in Stavanger.

The refined and elaborated neo-Renaissance building was in keeping with the ambitions of a luxury hotel at the turn of the century. The building has an artfully patterned facade of red and yellow bricks with white details and a few classic features such as the main entrance with its graceful columns, opens onto a beautiful piazza where other historic commercial buildings are situated.

It used to be a busy place for travelers with commercial activities, so the neighboring buildings were a bank and customs, and the hotel building itself was the headquarters of a local export business, a travel agency, as well as the first cinema in Stavanger.

In 2020 after the reconstruction, Hotel VICTORIA welcomes its guests again. For 120 years, the hotel is proud to have hosted many guests — members of the royal family, politicians, conference guests, famous people, tourists and residents of the city.

The hotel has been refurbished with respect for the building’s history and retains a luxurious ambience with a focus on classic design, architecture and art. Contrasts are visible throughout the hotel, which are expressed in the combination of modern decor and well-preserved historical elements.
