HISTORICAL PAST
ANDAZ LONDON was originally opened as the Great Eastern Hotel in 1884 in a Victorian building that is on the National Heritage List for England as a Grade II listed building. Once one of London’s first railway hotels, this red brick building is reflected in the art and furnishings throughout the hotel.
“Andaz” translates to ‘Personal Style’ and ANDAZ LONDON exemplifies heaps of this — first of all, it is a stunning lobby, where the guest enters immediately upon entering the hotel. Refurbished in 2018, the lobby smoothly and creatively blends the hotel’s Victorian heritage with the modern East London of today.
The front desk wall was created by the local art group Le Gun, and Rhino’s work by renowned graffiti artist Otto Schade is noteworthy. Also here you can see the influence of the building’s train days throughout — plush seats like those on old trains, rivets on the tables like old travel suitcases.
Original items are preserved throughout — marble stairs, mosaic tiles on the floor, cornices on the ceilings with details such as the original rail tracks. Particularly impressive is the glass dome of the ballroom from 1901, with a stained-glass dome preserved during the two world wars.
As reflected in the hotel’s unique, expressive interior design, ANDAZ LONDON is surrounded by the vibrant creative culture of East London, from street art to designer boutiques and independent art galleries.
Within walking distance from the hotel, guests can explore Shoreditch hotspots such as Old Spitalfields Market, Brick Lane and Columbia Road Flower Market. And the iconic sights of the City of London, including the Tower of London, Tower Bridge and St Paul’s Cathedral are just a 20-minute walk away.

THE WELCOMING “HOME” SPIRIT
ANDAZ LONDON has 267 spacious and modern rooms including Standard, Deluxe and Suite. The rooms capture the hotel’s location, history and heritage: spaces where the traditionally conservative City of London meets the ever-evolving vibrant and artistic East London. The décor is minimalist in grey, white and black with bright splashes of burgundy and orange.
The carpet design is inspired by the bespoke pinstriped suits of workers in the nearby City of London, while the stitched ‘denim’ around the base of the bed pays homage to the area’s sartorial past. Large cozy beds in the rooms provide the comfort you need for a great night’s sleep. Wall art and photographs by east London artists Sophie Moe and Martin Usborne. Amenities include air conditioning, tea making facilities, a Nespresso coffee machine, a TV, and complimentary minibars with soft drinks.
Luxurious large bathrooms with white tiled walls and sharp black faucets are well-appointed with everything you need for a stay.

Considered the jewel of the hotel, Rake’s Café Bar invites guests to escape from the hustle and bustle and enjoy a relaxing pastime accompanied by homemade coffee or a specially prepared signature cocktail.
As a café by day and bar by night, Rake’s offers a wide range of food and drink options, including breakfast, brunch and all-day dining.
Their eight signature cocktails are as delicious as they are intriguing, having been based around ‘A Rake’s Progress’, the eight paintings by William Hogarth that became the inspiration for the story of Rake’s.
The Café Bar can be enjoyed across three distinct rooms, The Front Room, a garden-influenced space and the first room guests experience at Rake’s, The Parlour, a sophisticated yet casual lounge area, and The Orgy Room, the Rake’s private dining room.
