VALVERDE HOTEL, located in one of Lisbon’s main and most luxurious arteries Avenida da Liberdade, and the only Relais & Châteaux property in the centre of Lisbon, has recently reopened after a 3-year expansion process.
VALVERDE (transl. “Green Valley”) was the name given on the past to the Avenida da Liberdade as all the space was fulfilled with green vegetation. So, VALVERDE HOTEL kept the name due to the fact to be located in the heart of the same Avenue.
Hotel opened in 2014 and resulted from the merge of two adjacent buildings located in Rua de São José with the main building. Original architecture of the hotel was designed by Diogo Rosa Lã and José Pedro Vieira of Bastir, who restored the characteristic building of 1889 and turned it into an extension of the hotel, showcasing its intimate setting. The duo also handled the hotel’s recent renovation.
DESIGN — INTIMACY IN EVERY SPACE
VALVERDE HOTEL has been renowned since its inception for unsurpassed hospitality, personal and attentive service, where everything is carefully thought out to make the guest feel at home.
Passing through the reception, one finds oneself in a series of spaces that “speak the same language” in terms of style and demonstrate a warm and sophisticated atmosphere, enhanced by unique objects and works of art, which have been carefully selected for each space.

VALVERDE HOTEL offers different unique spaces designed for privacy, relaxation and meetings.
Valverde Room — Located right at the entrance to the hotel, this room has retained its original appearance, reminiscent of an old but very stylish love room. It’s the perfect place to chat, read, have a cup of tea or coffee.
Jardim Room — Adjacent to the reception is an elegant and inviting living room that opens onto the garden through a spacious adjoining balcony — the perfect place for a business meeting, private event or afternoon cocktail.
Movie room — Another popular area with its famous library, red sofas and Fornasetti wallpaper, which can be used to watch a movie, read a book, chat in private, drink tea.
BEDROOMS — LUXURY & COMFORT
VALVERDE HOTEL offers 48 rooms and suites: 26 new rooms are a natural addition to the remaining 22, located in the original building, painted in rich colors, contrasting with light fabrics and bright details. 10 of those 22 face the patio and have large private balconies. Some of the rooms overlook Avenida da Liberdade, where you can enjoy the vibrant life of the city from the balconies.
The rooms are equipped with every comfort and cosiness, and retain their special atmosphere, which is emphasized by the presence of eclectic modern furniture, combined with antique paintings and well-thought-out lighting. Each room has its own aesthetic, from Neoclassical to Mid-Century Scandinavian Modern, as well as its own colors, making each room unique.
VALVERDE GASTRONOMY
THE PATEO, one of the hotel’s favorite spots, where you can dine, have tea or refreshments.
A welcoming indoor garden with lush greenery, terracotta flower pots, eclectic outdoor furniture with colorful fabrics, and a Air Chill machine that mitigates the heat.
“The Valverde Hotel offers an agenda of music every week that all the clients can enjoy in our beautiful Pateo when having dinner, lunch or simply enjoying one of our Cocktails made by our Head Barman Mario Machado,” — says Adélia.
In the mornings, buffet breakfasts are served here, replete with cold cuts, fresh vegetables and fruits, a variety of pastries, drinks. À la carte dishes are prepared individually upon request.
And, of course, a glass of champagne will give a driving mood to a new day.
In the evening, guests are greeted by the SITIO restaurant with its illuminated wood paneling, Burel-covered ceiling, traditional Portuguese fabric made from 100% pure sheep wool, glass-tiled mosaic floors, and French doors that open up to the interior garden.
The restaurant also has an outdoor terrace seating 10 people in addition to 34 indoor seats.
The restaurant’s menu, designed by Chef Carla Sousa, is a modern Portuguese cuisine inspired by its Cape Verdean roots and Portuguese gastronomy, which Carla considers one of the best.
Carla’s dishes focus on local produce and seasonality. The result of her work is a sensual gastronomic journey, where each dish is a vibrant bouquet of color, aroma and taste.
For any dish, the restaurant’s sommelier will select the most suitable wine from the rich wine list.
ROOFTOP — POOLSIDE REST
A small but very pleasant heated pool with its own terrace, located on the top floor of the hotel, explores the contrast between the large black metal surfaces surrounding the garden, the black tiles of the pool and the traditional Lioz Lisbon limestone.
And the rich vegetation that is the hallmark of the hotel is also presented here, both in the majestic flower pots in the background and in the roof gardens that connect the buildings.
